I confess
Had a new post
about the Nashville Flood
that isn’t quite ready
So here’s one from
TNB 1.0.
Summer Rerun
if you will.
11,
I’m on another road trip & I can’t read the notes on my phone.
So, I’ll read as soon as I get to a regular- sized screen.
Bonus to the first
to name
the sources
The 3-fer one…that’s a deception.
You have no idea how confused that made me. Just for a minute, but confused, anyway.
It’s, like, the goth item, that one.
Possession, Lovesong, Hurt
Nessun Dorma!
Wonderwall
Also, that one song.
I don’t know the rest without cheating.
Very good, very good.
If I’m the only one who knew Nessun Dorma, I’m happy, despite the shame of missing Jack & Diane and Public Enemy.
God.
I’m so ashamed.
yeah, I saw old Johnny Cash in there..
beat is for sonny bono, beat is for yoko ono
11,
I only get Johnny Cash.
I’m such a disappointment when it comes to music.
So sorry.
Irene,
No no –
they’re all Johnny Mathis songs,
from his gospel record.
Except for the Trini Lopez one.
11,
nonononono! I know that Johnny Cash sang the “My Sweet Friend” one! I don’t know who wrote it, but I can hear him singing it!
I’m sorry I’m such a musical disappointment to you.
Irene, I know your confusion. Johnny Cash recorded a song called “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails. It’s a beautiful version and I like it better than the original. So, technically, that is not a Johnny Cash song, although he recorded it, along with a host of other beautiful cover songs, so that is why you associate the Man in Black with those particular lyrics.
Mr. Nine Inch Nails himself
said
“Once Cash does your song
it’s pretty much his then”
Cheryl,
You are really nice.
I officially like you forever.
Made me want to
hang out behind the
tastee freeze
put my hand
between
her knees
You know when I was a kid
I was already apocalypse scarred
and completely into the book of Ecclesiastes
and when I heard those lyrics
even though I had no interest at all in John Cougar
I thought they pretty darn profound.
Very existential.
See…there’s another one that totally threw me for being part of a mash up. Of COURSE it’s Jack and Diane.
This is a cruel game you’re playing, jmb.
Strange what desire
will make foolish people
do
that line from Wonderwall was a question in a pub quiz I just won…
very cool post.
Same thing,
these are songs from the midnight hour
and that’s usually a very existential time
& I thought those lyrics (to Wonderwall)
especially from the source (the Gallagher bros.)
was just the beautiful absurdity of life.
I was in Nashville in the midst of a lot
of CCM stuff at the time
& I remember thinking Wonderwall
was way more gospel than most
gospel.
On my phone as well. Will have to play again later when I can better read, but I spotted a NIN, yes?
Public Enemy, Oasis, NWA, John C. Mellencamp… Love the selection. Didn’t know them all, but the ones I did hit me right between the eyes.
I’m staring at a Nine Inch Nails poster as I type this. About to press “Play.”
I’m hoping Trent Reznor still has lots
of good things to say.
He was able to evoke a mood
like few others.
5-0 said freeze
And I got numb
beat is
for
Anthrax
Cash.
Been a Cash fan since I was a kid
Hee Haw
One Piece at a Time
Ira Hayes
Heck, I even loved Strawberry Cake.
I thought the American Recordings were all wonderful
but the notations above – none were from Johnny Cash.
I got Hurt first from Nine Inch Nail’s Downward Spiral
Ain’t No Grave – a long long time
favorite that I wrote a TNB post about – maybe three years or so ago
on the version by the Singing Cookes – a Penetecostal family from Alabama.
Ah, The Beast in Me – yes that one from Cash
though it was written by Nick Lowe.
The Willie
is straight Willie though….
Nessun Dorma
is truly from
another world
I’ve heard all the versions.
this, I think
is the best.

I love all of these lyrics, but I love the chance to examine your handwriting even more.
I know everything about you now.
Mwahahahaha
Take the mask

(very clever post)
Ah see
this is the midnight hour
collection.
I could do a
Living AFTER Midnight
metal collection

Ah, I am a lyric loving fool. 🙂
I’m a fool for
the lyrical.
I feel like I went around snapping photos of odds and ends of paper and miraculously came up with something divine, worthy of some guitar hooks and bass lines…
Has TNB ever had a post
with a zer word count?
A bit lazy eh?
Note to self: “The owl says I’m nearly gone.”
