Why is there a fish on your book cover?

I like the idea of shooting fish in a barrel, or even a stream. The feeling that I am constantly overdoing it, living with a sense of desperation and the easy way out, which is often messy.

What is this book really about?

It is the best book of poems I have ever written. I don’t know if the world will agree because there is very little “I’m amazing” or “I finally realized my full potential in the universe” poems that seem to be very popular.

What are the best places to eat that aren’t featured in a hotel lobby brochure?

I like Sugar Fish for the omakasa, Black Sheep for the bahn mi sliders, and Jay’s Bar for the vegan tacos, and I’m not vegan.

If this book were a dance, what kind of dance would it be?

It would be a flamenco until the stage was shredded. It would also be a 7th grade slow dance and a dual braces kiss lock.

What’s the best place to make out in LA?

At Dante’s View up in the Griffith hike world.

What bar makes you feel weird in LA?

Zebulon in Frog Town. It is very aware of its’ cool. You can certainly attend a psych folk noise film art pop french aloof night and there will probably be a gong or whistling.

What makes a book release party fun?

A dance party afterwards and beer tasting. I’m giving it a go on March 24th at the Hatchery in Larchmont. Beer contest and music and live reading with pals.

Could I gift this book to my grandmother?

Does she party?

Does this book matter? Hello.

If you like the movie Meatballs or Apocalypse Now, then yes.

What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had, besides poet?

The paratrooper job was real. But the magic shop at Knotts Berry Farm was a sad illusion. I love magic. Bring me close up magic now! My stage name used to be Derrick the Dynamic. Sorry to all doves.
