I find naked Jesus
in the King Cake a zombie brought
from Della Calce Street

so I have
renewed my luck
I drain a shot of absinthe

I touch a visitor
a quarterback named Luck
with a horseshoe on his helmet
I touch him on the hardest part
of his cannon arm

Luck’s footballs wobble in torch light
before they fall to earth
untouched

I touch an iron civil war cannon
by the railroad track

Pig iron
Pig skin
Baby Jesus
Quarterback
In the darkest part
of the della Calce Street night
all the pieces fall into place

Peace is with me
I drain another shot of absence
