ZOË BROCK is a Californian by way of Australia by way of New Zealand who was in Portugal when she started writing for The Nervous Breakdown. She’s writing a memoir called Growing Up Model, wherein she discusses what it’s like to not only look like a model, but to be one.

She had an interesting childhood.  Her mother showered her with affection; her fun-loving father did, too, and then had one of the (ahem) harder wishes to fulfill in his Last Will and Testament.  Her nanny was a trannie, which perhaps explains why she enjoyed making boys dress like girls.

Given all of that, it’s no surprise that she went to Burning Man.  And wrote about it.  Or that she prepared for it by hiking in neon crotchless fishnet bodystockings. Or that she digs the Diceman. Or that she writes dirty poems.

She often writes about love: love and loss, love and relationship-sabotage, love and more relationship-sabotage, love and homecomings, love and happy endings.

And speaking of happy endings: just because she needs to have sex doesn’t mean she will have sex with you.

The Nervous Breakdown is an online culture magazine and literary community. It was founded in 2006. Our masthead can be found here.

  1. First!

SUCK IT, everyone from ZB’s old MySpace page!

God, I hope this doesn’t backfire.

  2. If an admin edits this to make me look like I wasn’t first, I’m going to be pissed.

Really? A beautiful woman isn’t going to have sex with me? Surprise surprise.

    Damn you, Simon Smithson!

Yay! ZB! You wonderful, gorgeous, shining star of a woman! You are a fabulous writer and a fabulous human being to boot. And gee, you were a cute kid -even when you were naughty.

  5. In my next lifetime I’m going to be a New-Zealandian-Australian-Californian model who hikes in neon crotchless fishnet bodystockings and writes memoirs. My reincarnation picks were tied between butterfly and baby polar bear. But now, this.

Hellooooooo, SS! Nice to see your pensive self on the home page. Hope you’re smiling today.

    Much love,

Spectacular honor- congratulations! I always enjoy features like this which point out some gems from the past that I may have missed. There are a few in the list, so I’m off to read.

In the immortal words of Coxy’s beloved Def Leppard,

“Just say you need it. And if you need it, say ‘yeah.'”

Not sure how well that fits here, but I really wanted to say it.

My lovely Zoe. I reread your pieces about your mama and papa yesterday and then I had lunch with your mama and Zara. It would have been complete if you had been there, but your presence was invoked by the memories shared. I’m so glad you’re back. I love your writing. xxx
